We are proud to announce that Acky Bright has been appointed as the Grand Marshal for the 5th Annual JAPAN PARADE & STREET FAIR, taking place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
In addition to this prestigious role, Acky Bright has also designed the first-ever official mascot for the event to commemorate its 5th anniversary.
Leading the Parade as Grand Marshal
The Grand Marshal is an honorary position bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to the cultural bridge between Japan and the world. Following in the footsteps of legends like George Takei and Chef Masaharu Morimoto, Acky Bright’s selection recognizes his visionary "Zero to One" creativity and his history of successful collaborations with global titans such as Marvel, BMW, Meta, and WcDonald’s.
The Birth of a New Icon: The Official Mascot
For the first time in the parade's history, an official mascot has been introduced. Designed by Acky Bright, the character is inspired by the squirrels of Central Park and features a blend of NYC’s signature navy and orange with Japan’s iconic red and white. Clad in a traditional happi coat and an apple T-shirt, the mascot embodies the vibrant fusion of Japanese heritage and contemporary New York energy.
Message from Acky Bright:
"New York City has become like a second hometown to me. I am truly honored to serve as Grand Marshal and to design the official mascot for this landmark 5th anniversary. I hope this character serves as a borderless ambassador, connecting cultures and bringing smiles to everyone at the parade.”
